Binh Duong Province, 1 April 2024 – CapitaLand Development (CLD) marked a significant milestone in its “Together We Step: Step For Kindness” campaign, drawing over 3,000 participants who collectively logged more than 10 million steps at an outdoor community event on 31 March 2024. Held in Binh Duong New City, the event marked the successful conclusion of a five-week social media campaign, which rallied the community to log more than 100 million steps online. Based on the total number of steps accumulated online and during the in-person event, CLD donated US$30,000 towards the refurbishment of the kitchen facilities of Thanh Tuyen Kindergarten (campus 2) in Dau Tieng district, Binh Duong province.

The outdoor community event took place at a location adjacent to Sycamore, CLD's first large-scale residential project in Vietnam. Set amidst lush greenery and overlooking the Binh Duong New City Central Park’s Lake – known as the “green lung” of the city – the location provided a scenic backdrop for the participants as they jogged or walked with their family, friends and even pets, over a distance of either 2 kilometres or 5 kilometres. The event also drew the participation of public figures, including Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H’Hen Nie and female footballer Thanh Nha from the Vietnam Women’s National Football Team. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere was a live performance by popular rapper JustaTee, on top of other entertainment activities.

In the lead-up to the in-person community event, CLD launched the online component of the steps campaign, which received positive feedback on social media. Over the course of five weeks, from 24 February to 30 March, participants enthusiastically shared updates of their daily step count using the hashtag #StepForKindness, cumulatively surpassing the 100 million-step mark. This online engagement helped to raise awareness for the cause and garner support for CLD’s community-building efforts.
Mr Ronald Tay, CEO of CLD Vietnam, said: “It has been an immensely rewarding experience for CLD to organise the #StepForKindness campaign. The campaign not only brought the community together for a good cause, but it also helped to promote an active lifestyle. With the successful conclusion of the campaign, CLD is pleased to contribute US$30,000 towards enhancing the kitchen facilities of Thanh Tuyen Kindergarten (campus 2) to help improve the students’ access to nutritious meals. As we deepen our roots in Binh Duong province, we look forward to organising more community-building activities in line with CLD’s purpose of ‘Enriching Lives, Uplifting Communities’.”
Mr Tay added: “Over CapitaLand’s 30-year presence in Vietnam, our dedication to building resilience in the community has been unwavering. Since CapitaLand’s entry into Vietnam in 1994, the Group’s philanthropic arm, CapitaLand Hope Foundation, has been steadfast in its commitment to nurturing the educational aspirations of the nation’s children and youth through initiatives such as the ‘My Schoolbag’ Programme, CapitaLand Kids Programme @ Education Bursary and Nutrition Project. We will continue to work towards reaching out to children in need and giving them a good head start in their learning journeys.”
Mrs Nguyen Thi Le Trinh, Member of Central Committee, Vietnam Red Cross Society, Chairwoman, Binh Duong Provincial Red Cross Society, said: “CLD’s social efforts and the participants’ involvement in the #StepForKindness campaign are truly inspiring. This initiative represents more than a singular event; it embodies our commitment to creating a sustainable future for the younger generation. We eagerly anticipate the beneficial outcomes that Thanh Tuyen Kindergarten (campus 2) will experience as a result of this campaign.”
As a sports enthusiast and community advocate, H’Hen Nie expressed excitement at taking part in the outdoor event of the #StepForKindness campaign. She said: “This morning felt extraordinarily uplifting and significant, not just for me but I believe for all the over 3,000 participants as well. It was a splendid opportunity to engage in a fitness activity in nature while doing good for the community. I look forward to more meaningful community activities with CLD in the future.”
